BRASILIA 25 July 2018 – As part of its Gender and Development (GAD) Program, the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia hosted a talk on Brazilian labor law at the Chancery on 22 July 2018.

This is the third year in a row that the Embassy organized a talk on the topic, which aims to raise awareness of Filipinos regarding their rights, benefits and obligations as foreign workers in Brazil.

This year, the talk focused on their rights as domestic staff for diplomats posted in Brasília. The participants gained knowledge and essential information on their privileges and remunerations, including overtime pay and vacation leaves. Issues on social security and separation pay were also discussed.

In her opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu B. Mauro urged the participants to maximize the presence of the Brazilian expert by asking questions specific to their situations.

Brazilian lawyer Juliana Araújo Lopes served as resource person. Ms. Lopes earned her law degree at the University of Brasília and is pursuing her Masters degree in Constitution, State and Democracy in the Graduate Program of Law in the same university.

Filipinos who attended the talk, majority of whom work for diplomats in Brasília, all expressed their appreciation to the Embassy for taking the initiative in addressing the specific concerns of the domestic staff of diplomats. END
