BRUNEI 25 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam participated in the annual ASEAN Mini Concert “We are One” at the open space in front of the Royal Regalia Museum in Bandar Seri Begawan on 21 July 2018.

This is in conjunction with the 72nd birthday celebration of Brunei ruler His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’lzzaddinn Waddaulah.

Organized by the Brunei Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs, this annual concert showcases the uniqueness of the arts and cultures of ASEAN countries, reflects the beauty of cultural diversity in Southeast Asia, and enhances understanding of cross cultures to create harmony and unity among local and foreign communities.

The event began with the singing of the ASEAN Anthem, and proceeded with cultural performances from Brunei Darussalam and other ASEAN countries. All the presentations reflected each country’s arts and culture and involved participants from embassies, workers and students based in Brunei.

Representing the Philippines were performers from the Sarjana Education Group, who rendered traditional cultural dances such as Itik Itik, Subli, Bulaklakan, and sang the Filipino songs Sa Kabukiran, and Hanggang Ngayon. As a finale, the group performed the popular song Piliin mo ang Pilipinas.

In events requiring cultural performances, the Embassy taps from the pool of performers of the Filipino Community in Brunei. Participation in the event is one of the areas where the Embassy and the Filipino Community strengthen their collaborative partnership. END
