CAIRO 30 July 2018 – Members of the Filipino Community in Egypt, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, participated in the annual “Pharaonic Nations Festival” hosted by the Pharaonic Village in Cairo on 22 July 2018.
Filipino performers showcased some of the country’s unique cultural aspects to Egyptian and expatriate audiences.
The Philippine presentation included a fashion show with models who graduated from the Advanced Skills Training Program, a Gender and Development capacity-building event sponsored by the Embassy from 09 March to 06 April 2018.
The participants paraded traditional Philippine costumes, which they themselves designed and created. A traditional Filipino Muslim dance called “Dayang-Dayang” was also performed by one of the Filipino Community members.
The Philippine booth displayed Filipino products and promoted tourist destinations. The guests were also offered a taste of Filipino delicacies such as biko and puto flan.
The Pharaonic Village was inaugurated in May 1984, and is one of Cairo’s popular art and history park. The Nations Festival was participated in by different foreign missions based in Cairo.
The Filipino Community’s participation in this event is part of the Embassy’s efforts in promoting people-to-people diplomacy, and creating a group of citizen diplomats from members of the Filipino Community. END
