LISBON 30 July 2018 – In observance of Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon held a seminar on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the Embassy chancery on 19 July 2018.

The guest speaker during the talk was Portugal’s Paralympic Committee Vice President Dr. Leila Marques Mota.

A physician by profession, Dr. Mota discussed the rights of PWDs in Portugal, and expounded on the services that are available to address the needs of PWDs.

In his welcome remarks, Consul General Gines Jaimes Ricardo D. Gallaga explained that the aim of the seminar is not only to raise awareness on the subject of disability, but also to align the services of the embassy with the needs of PWDs.

In attendance were members of the Filipino Community who are sports enthusiasts and those whose profession expose them to work hazards, and Embassy personnel.

The seminar, described by its participants as informative and useful, ended with the usual Philippine refreshments.

During its flag-raising ceremony last 16 July, the Embassy personnel also made the “Loyalty Pledge of an Advocate of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities.” END
