PH Consulate General in Guam Commemorates Apolinario Mabini’s 154th Birth Anniversary

AGANA 01 August 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Guam, together with the Batangas and Southern Tagalog Association of Guam (BASTA), commemorated the 154th birth anniversary of First Secretary of Foreign Affairs and hero Apolinario Mabini on 24 July 2018, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of the hero located at the Consul General’s residence in Tamuning.
The event started with the singing of the National Anthem led by Ferdinand Villamor of the Consulate General, followed by the traditional wreath-laying ceremony headed by Consul General Marciano R. de Borja and BASTA President Antonio Yanez Jr.
In his remarks, Consul General de Borja highlighted the determination of Apolinario Mabini who, despite of his physical disabilities, became one of the country’s most profound revolutionary thinkers. He also gave a brief account on Apolinario Mabini’s life as an exile in the island of Guam.
On hand to witness the event was Senator Joe S. San Agustin, member of the 34th Guam Legislature, leaders of various Filipino organizations, and the Consulate General’s officers and staff. END
