PHNOM PENH 01 August 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh brought its consular services to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) residing in the suburb of Borey Phiphop Thmey in Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh on 22 July 2018.

Located in the outskirts of Phnom Penh, the Borey Philphop Thmey suburb is host to a large concentration of OFWs working in Cambodia's burgeoning garments industry, and in other professions.

The Embassy's consular outreach team rendered passport and notarial services, as well as registration for overseas voting and Embassy ID.

OFWs, who availed themselves of the services expressed their joy and appreciation of the Embassy’s initiative to extend services at their location, even though it is technically still located within the capital.

“The travel fare to Phnom Penh is expensive, so this is a great help for us who stays here in Borey,” one OFW said.

Another worker recounted that during times of high-production at the factories, workers are not allowed to take leaves of absences until the quota is met. “It is difficult to file for a leave of absence during work days, so it’s only on Sundays that we are able to have our passports renewed,” she said.

The Embassy team also mounted a mini-exhibition of tourism promotion banners at the venue to introduce Cambodians in the Borey area to the beautiful tourism destinations in the Philippines, which is accessible via direct flight between Siem Reap and Manila through Cebu Pacific Air. END
