WARSAW 01 August 2018 – Ambassador to Poland Patricia Ann V. Paez and International Organization for Migration (IOM) Warsaw Head Anna Rostocka agreed to work together in ensuring the ethical recruitment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for the Polish labor market.
The Embassy’s Cultural and Gender and Development officer Imelda de Joya also participated in the meeting with the IOM.
The Embassy and the IOM will hold two seminars this September for OFWs in Poland on the following topics: “Cultural Orientation for Newly-Arrived Migrant Workers” and “Rights and Obligations of OFWs in Poland.”
IOM Warsaw will provide the speakers and resource persons for the seminars, which will be held on two Sundays during the regular “pulong bayan” or community meeting at the Embassy.
Rostocka also informed the Ambassador about International Recruitment Integrated Standards, which is a tool to verify recruitment channels and promote ethical international labor recruitment standards. This is accessible through its website at www.iris.iom.int.
The joint project is most timely due to the increasing demand for Filipino workers in Poland.
In a recent meeting between Embassy officials and officials of the Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry conveyed the preference for Filipino workers to fill Poland’s labor shortage in the information technology, construction, and nursing sectors.
The Embassy and the Ministry are presently working on the drafts of the envisioned Philippine-Poland bilateral agreements on labor cooperation and social security, to protect and promote the welfare of OFWs in Poland.
A 21-member delegation from the Philippine Association of Service Exporters Inc., an umbrella organization of Philippine recruitment agencies, visited Warsaw last 12 June, and had business-to-business meetings at the Embassy with potential Polish employers which represent various industry sectors.
