Suriname President Praises Stable Philippines-Suriname Ties as PH Ambassador Presents Credentials
PARAMARIBO, SURINAME 09 August 2018 —Philippine Ambassador to Brasilia Marichu B. Mauro presented her Letter of Credence as the Non-Resident to Surinamese President Desiré Bouterse on 30 July 2018 at the Presidential Palace.
The official ceremony included full military honors with the Philippine National Anthem played in the background by the Suriname Military Band.
During the meeting after the official ceremony, Ambassador Mauro conveyed the warm greetings of President Rodrigo Duterte to the President, his family and the Surinamese people.
She also thanked President Bouterse for the benevolent and compassionate treatment of Filipino workers in the country who have considered Suriname their second home.
For his part, President Bouterse praised the good and stable relations between the Philippines and Suriname, despite diplomatic relations having been established relatively recently in 1997. He acknowledged the great geographical distance between the two countries, but does not consider it as a hindrance in enhancing bilateral relations particularly in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and agricultural technology.
Ambassador Mauro pledged to do her best in developing Philippines-Suriname relations.
In turn, President Bouterse wished Ambassador Mauro success, and expressed his confidence that she will follow through the proposals initially raised with Suriname Foreign Affairs Minister Yldiz Pollack-Beighle in an earlier meeting. END
