BRUNEI 09 August 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, led by Chargé d’ Affaires Pete Raymond V. Delfin, attended the official inauguration of the ASEAN Car-Free Day (ACFD) held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali’ Saifuddien, Bandar Seri Begawan on 05 August 2018.

The ACFD is an initiative where nationals of ASEAN member states participate in physical activities to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

The event was organized by the Brunei Health Ministry, in collaboration with other government ministries that organized several Bandarku Ceria (Car-Free Sundays of Brunei Darussalam) activities in the past.

Brunei Health Minister Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar led the event, together with the other ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Following the launch, the ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corps took part in an aerobics warm-up exercise, before going on a 2.6-kilometer walkathon around Brunei’s capital. They also toured several exhibition booths set up in the compound of the Taman Square.

Brunei’s Bandarku Ceria is designed to encourage the community to promote a healthy lifestyle by engaging in more physical activities, strengthen family institution, and reduce carbon footprint. A number of roads in Bandar Seri Begawan area are closed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. so the public can use them for recreation, cultural and community activities. END
