PH Ambassador Discusses Expanding Bilateral Relations with Suriname Foreign Minister

SURINAME 10 August 2018 – Ambassador to Brazil Marichu B. Mauro and Suriname Foreign Affairs Minister Yldiz Pollack-Beighle discussed the enhancement of ties between the Philippines and Suriname during the former’s courtesy call on the Surinamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paramaribo on 27 July 2018.

Ambassador Mauro, who was in Paramaribo to present her credentials to President Desiré Bouterse as Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname, was very keen to pursue specific agenda to improve Philippine-Suriname bilateral relations.

During the meeting, both officials agreed to further develop relations between the two countries through identification of specific projects.

Minister Pollack-Beighle noted the presence of Filipino workers in Suriname, and expressed how much her government would like to hire more Filipino skilled workers.

There are about 500 Filipinos currently working in Suriname in the medical, hospitality and other service sectors, as well as in the fishing and mining industries. END
