BRASILIA SURINAME

SURINAME 10 August 2018 –  Philippine Ambassador to Brazil and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname Marichu B. Mauro met with members of the Filipino Community in Suriname on 29 July 2018 in the capital city of Paramaribo.

The meeting was an opportunity for Ambassador Mauro to check on well-being of Filipinos in the country, and answer their concerns on various issues from employment contracts to residency.

There are about 500 Filipino skilled workers who live and work in Suriname in the medical, hospitality and other service industries, as well as in mining, logging and fishing sectors.

Filipino workers in Suriname are well regarded in the country, and the Surinamese government is very interested in hiring more Filipino skilled workers in the country.

Ambassador Mauro, who was in Paramaribo to present her credentials to Surinamese President Desiré Bouterse, assured the Filipino Community that their welfare is important to the Embassy and that, despite the distance, every effort will be given to them should they require assistance.
