DTI Undersecretary, PH Delegation Meet with Brunei’s Ministry of Religious Affairs

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 20 August 2018 – Philippine Trade and Industry Undersecretary Abdulgani M. Macatoman, head of the Philippine delegation to the 1st First Committee (JC) meeting for the Philippines-Brunei Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion, met with officials from Brunei’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) led by Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Yussof, on 08 August 2018.   

Among those discussed during the meeting include the Philippines’ participation in the Brunei Halal Showcase (BruHAS) 2018, convening of the JC Meeting to facilitate the implementation of the Philippines-Brunei MOU on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion, Halal certification process in Brunei Darussalam, assistance in the development of a Philippine national halal accreditation scheme and capacity-building for halal certification, Islamic tourism, and initiatives in support of halal export promotion and joint-venture investment projects in Mindanao and in the BIMP-EAGA region.

Members of the Philippine delegation included Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Pete Raymond V. Delfin, Philippine Trade and Investment Centre-Singapore Commercial Counsellor Maria Cynthia B. Ricafort, Department of Foreign Affairs Director Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority Director Jose J. Suan, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Director and Officer-in-Charge Ernani M. Dionisio, DTI Halal Section-Export Marketing Bureau Head Albino M. Ganchero, DTI Halal Section-Export Marketing Bureau Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Raison D. Arobinto, and Undersecretary Macatoman’s Technical Assistant Hafidah B. Macadaya.

During the meeting, MoRA officials expressed their appreciation to the Philippine delegation for its participation in BruHAS 2018 as well as its attendance in the JC Meeting, as these initiatives signify the Philippines’ intention to pursue more comprehensive collaboration with Brunei on Halal industry development.
