GUAM 23 August 2018 – Two Philippine Navy ships (BRP)—the Andres Bonifacio (FF-17) and the Davao del Sur (LD602)—reached Guam waters on 15 August 2018 after participating at the 26th Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises which concluded on 02 August 2018 in Hawaii.
This is the second time BRP Andres Bonifacio made a pit stop to Guam.
Philippine Consulate General personnel led by Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy welcomed BRP Andres Bonifacio officers and crew, headed by Commanding Officer Captain Ernesto O. Baldovino, at 8:00 a.m. at the U.S. Naval Base Guam in Apra Harbor, Piti.
Consul General Marciano R. de Borja received the delegation for a courtesy call at his official residence in Jonestown in the afternoon.
On 16 August 2018, the Philippine Navy held an open ship for the Filipino Community aboard the BRP Andres Bonifacio.
The Filipino Community brought provisions for the ship’s crew, and were treated to entertainment by the Philippine Navy’s band and Philippine dances.
Captain Baldovino gave a tour of BRP Andres Bonifacio, which is the third Hamilton class cutter procured by the Philippine Navy service after the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (FF-15) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (FF-16), and deployed for maritime law enforcement.
Meanwhile, BRP Davao del Sur is the second and last ship of its class of the Philippine Navy's landing platform docks. The vessel was launched on 29 September 2016, and commissioned into Philippine Navy service on 31 May 2017.
The ships departed Guam on 17 August 2018 for a week-long voyage to Manila. END
