PH Consulate General in HK Celebrates FilCom Charity Group’s Anniversary

HONG KONG 24 August 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong joined in the celebration of the sixth anniversary of a Filipino Community organization that despite its modest size has had a tremendous impact in the local communities the members came from.

Deputy Consul General Roderico C. Atienza attended the celebration of the Bagong Bayani Builders PhilHK Legion, which is affiliated with the Taguig City-based Guardians Benevolent Brotherhood International Incorporated, at the Kennedy Town Community Centre on 29 July 2018.

“I am so impressed with the work you are doing to help your own communities through your charity drive,” Deputy Consul General Atienza said in a speech before the 200-odd attendees of the anniversary celebration.

The group, founded on 27 July 2012 by household service worker Florlyn Valenzuela, has made tremendous impact in their local communities by distributing school bags, groceries and cooked food to some 100 children and 4,000 senior citizens last year alone every time one of their 17 members went home for a visit.

They have conducted visits to senior citizens in Urdaneta and Bayambang in Pangasinan, worked with Anawim Lay Missions Foundation in Rodriguez, Rizal, distributed chairs to the elderly and school supplies to primary school children in Lupi, Camarines Sur, conducted mass feeding in Caloocan City, and even conducted blood donation drive in Mongkok.
