ASEAN Embassies in Buenos Aires Celebrate ASEAN’s 51st Anniversary

BUENOS AIRES 04 September 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, in collaboration with the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, celebrated the 51st anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 08 August 2018.
The celebration was the inaugural official function of Philippine Ambassador Linglingay F. Lacanlale, and was the first project of the newly-formed ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires, chaired by Malaysian Ambassador to Buenos Aires Dato Mohd’ Khalid Abbasi Razak.
Some 200 members of the diplomatic corps, Argentine government officials, journalists, and business leaders were in attendance at the event.
Vice Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi highlighted Argentina’s recent accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Singapore on 02 August 2018, which will enhance relations between ASEAN and Argentina. He also congratulated ASEAN for the extraordinary economic successes it has achieved.
The event was also an occasion to highlight ASEAN arts, cuisine, and culture. A highlight of the celebration was an ASEAN fashion show where traditional costumes, such as the barong Tagalog, where showcased.
The event was capped by a reception where Filipino food prepared by Chef Christina Sunae, the authority on Southeast Asian food in Buenos Aires, proved to be a big hit. END
