Homeward-Bound: Last Japan-Made Philippine Coast Guard Vessel on Its Maiden Voyage to PH
TOKYO 04 September 2018 — The Department of Foreign Affairs said the Japanese Government has turned over the 10th and last 44.5-meter multi-role response vessels (MRRV) procured by the Philippine Government through a concessional loan on 13 August 2018.
According the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, BRP Cape Engaño will complete the set of ten MRRVs ordered by the Philippine Government through Japanese official development assistance.
It is expected to further boost the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) capability in ensuring, maritime security and safety, maritime law enforcement, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection within the country’s maritime domain.
Christened by the PCG after a Philippine lighthouse in Cagayan in recognition of its significance as one of the primary navigational aids in the maritime industry, the patrol vessel sailed for the Philippines after construction works were completed by the Japan Marin United Corporation.
The BRP Cape Engaño was commissioned by the PCG for its various missions immediately when it arrived on the third week of August. END
