PHNOM PENH 04 September 2018 – In commemoration of the 51st ASEAN anniversary, diplomats from ASEAN Missions and the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) held the first-ever ASEAN Friendly Bowling Tournament in Phnom Penh on 22 August 2018.

After the playing of the ASEAN Anthem, Singaporean Ambassador Michael Tan, representing the current chair of ASEAN and Cambodian Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation David Luy delivered their welcome remarks. He also led ASEAN Heads of Mission, including Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher B. Montero, to a ceremonial roll of the ball.

Ten mixed teams, named after various Cambodian provinces, were formed and led by each ASEAN Ambassador.

The Kratie Team led by the Malaysian Chargé d'Affaires Ruzaimi Mohamad, won the highest scoring team award, followed by Pailin Team led by the Ambassador of Myanmar U Myint Soe.

The wife of the Indonesian Deputy Chief of Mission, Madame Elise R. Purba, and Fa San from the Thai Embassy were the top female and male scorers, respectively.

The ASEAN Friendly Bowling Tournament was initiated by the Philippine Embassy to promote closer relations and foster camaraderie between and among the staff and officials of ASEAN Embassies and Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry and their families.

The tournament follows the successful conduct of the ASEAN Family Day, which was spearheaded by the Embassy during the country’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2017.

The participants from MFAIC and ASEAN Embassies expressed appreciation to the Philippine Embassy for organizing the bowling tournament. END
