Improved Bilateral Relations Seen as PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to Argentine President

BUENOS AIRES CREDENTIALS

BUENOS AIRES 05 September 2018 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Argentina Linglingay F. Lacanlale presented her credentials to Argentinian President Mauricio Macri on 21 August 2018.

During the brief meeting that followed the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Lacanlale conveyed the greetings of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Filipino people to President Macri.

The Ambassador recalled the enduring ties of friendship between the two countries, which stretch back to the days when both were Spanish colonies.

The two officials discussed improving economic relations, the need to continue people-to-people exchanges to promote better understanding, which is an effective tool for enhanced bilateral cooperation in other fields.

The Ambassador recalled the productive bilateral consultations hosted by Argentina in August 2017, during which a Twenty-Point Agenda was agreed upon.

She expressed the hope that the next meeting, which will be held in Manila sometime in 2019, will review progress in the implementation of the projects.

Argentinian Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie indicated that Argentina intends to include a business delegation during the visit to explore economic partnerships.

The Philippines and Argentina are celebrating 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

Ambassador Lacanlale mentioned to President Macri that a bust of Argentina’s national hero General Jose de San Martin, located at the dazzling Salon Blanco of the Casa Rosada of the Argentine Chief Executive’s office, was in fact made by the Filipino ilustrado Felix Pardo de Tavera, an associate of Filipino national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.

In turn, a bust of General San Martin may be found in Intramuros, to commemorate his brother’s service in the Philippines.

The ceremony concluded with a floral offering at the Monument to General San Martin, with Embassy officials in attendance. END
