PH Embassy in Norway Kicks Off Oslo Culinary Tour with Asia’s Best Female Chef Margarita Fores

OSLO 06 September 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo kicked off the 2018 “Philippine Flavors: A Culinary Tour” with 2016 Asia’s Best Female Chef Margarita Forés at Mathallen Hall in Oslo on 24 August 2018.

Philippine Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia welcomed the guests and introduced the 2018 Philippine Culinary Tour in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Malmö (Sweden).

Ms. Forés and her team prepared a five-course menu for invited guests, including chefs, restaurateurs, food bloggers, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, foodies, and friends of the Embassy.

Ambassador Garcia thanked the co-organizers, the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Cultural Diplomacy Unit (CDU) and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Stockholm, and supporters including Senator Loren Legarda, Ambassador Manuel Teehankee Jr., Office of Undersecretary for International and Economic Relations Executive Director Jesusa Susana V. Paez and CDU Head Maria Louella C. Duarte.

In the course of the dinner, Ms. Forés introduced each Filipino dish, the ingredients used, and the unique story of the dish in Philippine cuisine. 

As part of the introduction of Philippine cuisine and food products, guests were given samples of Destileria Limtuaco liqueurs, Malagos Chocolates, and Theo and Philo Chocolates.

To encourage the guests to sample different Philippine dishes, the Embassy distributed recipe cards from the book “Kulinarya: A Guide Book to Philippine Cuisine,” published by Asia Society Philippines Foundation and Anvil Publishing.

To add color and music, Likha Scandinavia dance group performed some dances.

The culinary tour will proceed to Copenhagen in Denmark, and Stockholm and Malmö in Sweden from 27 August to 08 September 2018. END
