PRC Officials Call On PH Ambassador in Oman

MUSCAT 07 September 2018 – Ambassador to Oman Narciso T. Castañeda received on 27 August 2018 the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) officials, who administered the second Special Professional Licensing Examinations (SPLE) on 24-26 August 2018 in Muscat.

They were accompanied by Welfare Officer Marilou M. Sumalinog, acting head of the Embassy’s Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).

The SPLE Oman team were composed of International Affairs Office and Chief of the International Commitments Negotiation Division OIC-Director Lord Louis P. Valera and PRC Officer Rene C. Lompot.

Mr. Valera was designated as team leader and examination coordinator while Mr. Lompot was designated as examination supervisor/examination materials custodian and attendance supervisor/disbursing officer.

Ambassador Castañeda welcomed the PRC officials and expressed his appreciation for the holding of the SPLEs in Muscat, thus addressing the request of Filipino expatriates in the Sultanate to obtain their Philippine professional licenses. Upgrading their professional status would also improve the employment prospects of these Filipino expatriates in the Philippines and abroad.  Ambassador Castañeda also noted that this was the second year that SPLEs were held in Oman, the first being in 2017.

Director Valera informed Ambassador Castañeda that 44 overseas Filipinos sat for examinations in their respective professions, which included Nursing, Elementary and Secondary Teacher, Environmental Planner and Master Plumber, among others.  He added that despite the small number of examinees this year, the PRC still approved the holding of the SPLEs in consideration of the relatively small number of Filipino workers in Oman. 

In 2017, 85 Filipinos took the SPLEs in Muscat in various professions, prominently Architect, Respiratory Therapist, Master Plumber, and Elementary and Secondary Teacher.  A number of examination passers have also taken their respective oaths of profession at the Embassy. END
