PH Explores Cooperation in Service Industry with Hainan
GUANGZHOU 10 September 2018 – Philippine Consul General to Guangzhou Marshall Louis M. Alferez met with Hainan Provincial Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office Deputy Director General Chen Jianjiao on 29 August 2018 to discuss exchanges and possible areas for cooperation between the Philippines and Hainan.
The two officials took note of active exchanges between Palawan and Hainan, which share a sister province agreement. Likewise, Deputy Director General Chen expressed optimism that relations with Cebu, which Hainan also has a sister province agreement with, would expand further.
Consul General Alferez took note of the booming tourism and hotel industry in Hainan, and mentioned the well-known expertise held by Philippine workers in the service sector.
He stated that Philippine agencies like the Technical and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) are well-regarded internationally in training managers in such sectors and could offer such expertise to Hainan.
Both officials expressed optimism that this could be another successful area of cooperation for the Philippines and China. END
