JAKARTA 10 September 2018 – Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Leehiong Tan Wee met with   Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade and Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines Sinyo Harry Sarundajang to discuss the Roll-on-Roll-off (RO-RO) route between the Philippines and Indonesia, and the establishment of direct air routes between Davao and Manado, Indonesia.

Reviving the RO-RO and establishing direct air routes between Davao and Manado, Indonesia will help spur further trade, business, and tourism opportunities between the Philippines, especially for Mindanao, and Indonesia by significantly reducing shipping and flight time and cost between the two countries.

Philippines-Indonesia trade has increased from US$ 4 billion in 2015 to over US$ 7 billion in 2017. From 11th in 2015, Indonesia has moved to being the Philippines’ 9th trading partner. The revival of direct transportation links will pave the way for increased bilateral trade and investment. END
