JAKARTA 10 September 2018 — Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Hiong T. Wee met with Indonesian Consul General in Davao City Berlian Napitupulu, Mindanao Development Authority Secretayr Datu Abul Khayr Dangcal Alonto, and Davao capital city officials to discuss the Roll-on-Roll-off (RORO) route between the Philippines and Indonesia, and the establishment of direct air routes between Davao and Manado.

According to Ambassador Wee, reviving the RORO and establishing direct air routes between Davao and Manado will help spur further trade, business, and tourism opportunities between the Philippines—specifically Mindanao—and Indonesia by significantly reducing shipping and flight time and cost between the two countries.

Philippines-Indonesia trade has increased from US$ 4 billion in 2015 to over US$ 7 billion in 2017. Indonesia has moved from being the Philippines’ 11th top trading partner in 2015 to the Philippines’ ninth top trading partner in 2017. The revival of direct transportation links will pave the way for increased bilateral trade and investment. END
