PH Participates in Overseas Chinese Chambers Summit in HK

HONG KONG 11 September 2018 — The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, represented by Deputy Consul General Roderico C. Atienza and Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin, participated in the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) World Chinese Entrepreneurs Summit at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 23 August 2018.
The Summit focused on the opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area development strategy. It marked the 40th anniversary of the start of Deng Xiaoping’s reform and opening up of China and the 5th anniversary since the launch of the BRI.
The event was led by CGCC-Hong Kong Chairman, Dr. Jonathan Choi, and featured Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor as opening keynote speaker.
The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) was one of the Summit’s collaborating organizations. Eight officials, including its Honorary President, Mr. Angel Ngu, and current President, Domingo Yap, attended the event.
According to FFCCCII Secretary General Fernando Gan, their Chamber is bidding to host the CGCC World Chinese Entrepreneurs Summit in 2021 in the Philippines and bidding results will be in October in Seoul, South Korea.
The event was attended by more than 1,000 attendees including officials from the Hong Kong government, Hong Kong-based consular corps, Chinese business community, academia, professionals and other experts. END
