NYÍREGYHÁZA 11 September 2018 – The Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir performed as guest choir at the 12th Cantemus International Choir Festival, one of the most prominent choral festivals in Hungary in Nyíregyháza, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in Hungary on 15 to 21 August 2018.

Philippine Ambassador to Hungary Maria Fe T. Pangilinan was invited to grace the occasion and deliver remarks during the festival’s opening ceremony at the Nyíregyháza County Hall.

The Choir opened the floor with the song-prayer “Pater Noster.” The 36-member group of children aged seven to 18, then proceeded to captivated the audience with its rendition of Filipino folk songs and church hymns.

Primarily conceived in 1999 as a parish choir of the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Quezon City, the Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir has been winning choral competitions around the world throughout its 19-year history.

Led by Professor Ma. Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and her spouse Jude Roldan, the children’s choir garnered various awards, such as being recognized as the first Filipino champion in the Bremen Choir Olympics in Germany in 2004, and the first children’s choir to win the Choir of the World title at the 67th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in the United Kingdom in 2013.

The biannual Cantemus International Choir Festival was first held in 1996. Since then, it has become part of the county’s local tradition, and has expanded to include choral groups from Asia, Africa, America and other parts of Europe. END
