PH Ambassador to Belgium Visits Ghent University

BRUSSELS 12 September 2018 – Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Eduardo José A. de Vega visited Ghent University on 04 September 2018, upon the invitation of University Rector Rik Van De Walle to ASEAN Ambassadors comprising the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC).

Academic Director for Internationalisation Guido Van Huylenbroeck provided an overview of the university’s history and culture, and introduced faculty members from different academic areas that ASEAN member states could collaborate with for research and scholarship purposes.

ABC delegation head Ambassador Khamkheuang Bounteum of Lao People’s Democratic Republic delivered his remarks by underlining the demographic and economic strength of ASEAN, and thanking the university for its support for ASEAN students and faculty.

Founded in 1817, Ghent University is one of the leading universities in Belgium, ranking 69th globally in the 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities. It has 9,000 staff members and 43,000 students, 5,400 of whom come from outside Belgium. END
