President Duterte Meets with King Abdullah II of Jordan, Philippines, and Jordan Sign 6 Bilateral Agreements

JORDAN 06 September 2018 — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte held bilateral talks with King Abdullah II bin AI Hussein of Jordan on 06 September 2018, noting the importance of the visit—the first for a Philippine Head of State.

The two leaders committed to strengthening the bonds of friendship and bilateral ties established between the Philippines and Jordan over 40 years ago, and conveyed their intention to further enhance the ties between the Philippines and Jordan in the areas of politico-security cooperation, trade and investments, and labor, among others.

The Philippines and Jordan signed six agreements aimed at enhancing the bilateral ties between the two countries. These agreements are: Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding on Investment Cooperation, and Memorandum of Agreement on the Mutual Recognition of Maritime Certificates.

Other arguments included the Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding on Labor Cooperation and the Cooperation Framework on the Deployment of Household Service Workers, originally signed in 2010 and 2012, respectively.

President Duterte likewise expressed his appreciation to King Abdullah II generously hosting over 40,000 Filipinos in Jordan. On his part, the King stated that Jordan is happy to host the Filipino community in Jordan and noted that the presence of the Filipino community enhances the people-to-people ties and strengthens the two countries' understanding of one another.

In  his  meeting  with  the  King,  the President  was  accompanied by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Labor and Employment  Secretary Mr. Silvestre Bello Ill, National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go, and Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Akmad Sakkam.
