Customs Treaty with Russia to Facilitate Trade, Prevent Smuggling

MOSCOW 18 September 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow announced that the agreement regarding cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs matters have recently entered into force following completion of ratification procedures by the Philippines and Russia.
The agreement covers cooperation to expedite customs formalities, exchange of data and best practices, and mutual assistance in prevention of smuggling, and entry of illicit goods and substances.
“This kind of agreement is very important as it helps enhance bilateral trade and prevent customs-related offences,” said Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta.
“With the continuing increase of Russia’s profile in our foreign policy, we can expect bilateral trade in goods between our countries to grow as well,” he added.
According to the Embassy, the Bureau of Customs of the Philippines and the Federal Customs Service of Russia are currently finalizing the protocol and list of cooperation activities in implementing the agreement.
The Philippines’ bilateral trade with Russia exceeded US$600 million in 2017. END
