HONOLULU 03 September 2018 – The United States Department of Labor-Wage and Hour Division (USDOL-WHD) Honolulu District Office with jurisdiction over Hawaii, Guam, Saipan- CNMI and American Samoa, partnered with the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu to disseminate information on their programs for workers in Hawaii on 03 September 2018.

This is in observance of Labor Rights Week leading up to the Labor Day holiday.

The Labor Rights Week activity is a collaborative effort between the Consulate General and the Department of Labor field offices to increase awareness and inform workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities under U.S. labor laws.

Generally each year during the last week of August, these partners join forces with worker rights groups, faith-based and community organizations and local unions, which either host or help sponsor informational workshops, educational sessions, and other special events.

Other U.S. government agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, also engage in Labor Rights Week activities to disseminate information and educational materials on the laws their agencies enforce.

Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist Herbert Lee manned an information booth at the Consulate General’s consular area and distributed information packets and talked to clients about the various labor rights resources available.

The resources available include information on sexual harassment, workers’ rights, protecting workers from heat stress, hazard communication standards, and disability rights.

The US-PH activity ran from 28 to 31 August 2018. END
