SAN FRANCISCO 01 October 2018 – Two more entities signed an agreement with the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco on a movement that aims to highlight Filipino culture among the Filipino-American youth on 19 September 2018.

San Diego based Filipino School, represented by its Chairperson Tony Olaes, and Philippine Honorary Consul in San Diego Audie De Castro signed the Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) Partnership Agreement with the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr.

The Filipino School and Honorary Consul De Castro are among the latest organizations and individuals who have committed to initiate activities for Filipino-Americans that will spark love for their Filipino heritage and culture, connect them with like-minded networks and individuals, and empower them to take action for the betterment of the country.

The SCE is a movement that the Consulate initiated in 2017 with the realization that with recent trends and shifts in demography, indicating that millennials and Gen-Zs are outnumbering first generation Filipinos, there is a possibility that Filipino identity, culture and heritage among Filipino-Americans in the United States could be permanently lost.

The SCE Movement aims to inspire more Filipino-Americans, especially the younger generations, to be the new vanguards of Filipino culture and heritage and become more empowered.

“We thank The Filipino School and Honorary Consul De Castro for their commitment in advocating the ideals of the SCE movement in San Diego. It is our hope that through their efforts and activities, more Filipino-Americans are able to develop a deeper sense of identity and a greater love for their heritage and culture. In turn, we envision a Filipino-American community that is empowered to become active agents of change both in their communities and in the Philippines,” Consul General Bensurto. END
