YANGON 01 October 2018 – To celebrate the centennial anniversary of Philippine cinema, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon and the Sentro Rizal, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), organized a special screening of the film "Mr. and Mrs. Cruz" on 23 September 2018 at Lotte Hotel.

In his remarks, Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo E. Kapunan, Jr. recounted the history of Philippine cinema and how it has evolved since the early 1900s. He said that the NCCA wishes to highlight the importance, impact and achievements of Philippine Cinema with a two-and-a-half-year celebration from 2017 to 2019.

The two and a half-year celebration stems from two milestone events: the establishment of Jose Nepomuceno's Malayan Movies in 1917, the first Filipino production outfit, and the premiere of "Dalagang Bukid" in September 1919, which is the first Filipino feature film to be locally produced in the Philippines.

Directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz” is about two heartbroken people who travelled to El Nido, Palawan to spend some time alone, and eventually finds healing through one another. END
