SAN FRANCISCO 04 October 2018 – President of the League of the San Francisco Consular Corps (LSFCC) Mariza Bensurto hosted a tea gathering to welcome old and new members of the organization and to update members of upcoming activities on 12 September 2018.
During the event, Supervisor of San Mateo David Canepa, himself the spouse of the Honorary Consul General of El Salvador Ana Canepa, attended the event, where he presented Madame Bensurto with two commendations, one for LSFCC, for “their mission to build deep friendships among members through social, cultural and intellectual exchanges, and to engage, serve and support Bay Area charities through philanthropy”, and one for Madame Bensurto, for building “deep friendships with colleagues from around the world in the consular corps” and for being instrumental in bringing the members together.
Madame Bensurto presented the new members to the group and introduced the new set of officers for 2018-2019, as well as the US Support Team.
Madame Yi-Ling Quek of Singapore updated the group of upcoming events of LSFCC, including a US Support-sponsored visit to Angel Island, an informative session with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, a visit to the Flintstone House in Foster City, a visit with the San Francisco Ballet, and a visit to the Mills Building for The Hinabi Project’s Mountain Spirits: Ceremonial Textile and Folk Arts of Cordilleras and Ilokos exhibit.
Madame Sheila Ortona, the spouse of the Consul General of Italy in San Francisco Lorenzo Ortona, generously provided the Italian Consulate as venue for the welcome tea.
The LSFCC is a non-profit organization that provides support to diplomats, particularly the spouses and partners, who hold the responsibility of settling the family into San Francisco. With the help of the US Support group who are residents of San Francisco, the members are able to interface with the San Francisco City Hall, explore the bay area through guided familiarization tours, and create friendships among the consular corps.
