NAIROBI 09 October 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi joined South Korea, Sri Lanka, India, China and Kenya in the First Kenya-Asia Pacific Barbecue Festival held at the Two Rivers Mall in Nairobi on 22 September 2018.

The Barbecue Festival was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate of Asia and Australasia. The project was aimed at promoting Asian food, particularly “barbecue,” as the Kenyan barbecue style “choma” is a popular dish.

The event drew hundreds of guests, with each country having two booths each—one for cultural display and one for food presentation. Filipino food sold out quickly as guests took advantage of the rare treat.

Cultural performances from Philippines and China livened up the event. Imbento, a Filipino band which is gaining popularity in Nairobi, performed Asian and African themed songs. The Center for Dance and Art and the Charmaine Smith School of Dance performed Filipino themed ballet numbers. END
