MANAMA 09 October 2018 — Philippine products, tourist sites and talents took center stage in Bahrain as the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain joined other ASEAN Missions in a festival.

Together with the other members of the ASEAN Committee in Manama (ACMB) the Embassy participated in the ASEAN Delights Festival at the Ground Floor of Ramli Mall in A’ali from 27 to 29 September 2018.

The event was organized by LuLu International Group and the ASEAN Bahrain Council under the patronage of Shaikh Daij bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The ASEAN Delights Festival featured cultural presentations from Philippines and other ACMB members Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and cooking demonstrations from the ASEAN embassies and their partners. Each embassy was assigned a stall to display products, and highlight the tourism potential of their countries.

The Embassy stall featured Philippine companies and brands with presence in Bahrain, as well as Philippine handicrafts and food items. The booth also showed videos and promotional materials of popular Philippine tourism destinations.

The opening ceremony was led by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Undersecretary Shaikha Rana Bint Isa Al Khalifa, and ASEAN Bahrain Council Chairman Shaikh Daij bin Isa Al Khalifa.

They were joined by Philippine Ambassador Alfonso A. Ver, Brunei Chargè d’Affaires Nor Huda Ahmad, Indonesian Ambassador Nur Syahrir Rahardjo, Malaysian Ambassador Agus Salim bin Yusof and Thailand Ambassador Thanis Na Song Khla, and Mr. Juzer Rupawala, Regional Director of LuLu International Group.

The Philippine cultural presentation on opening day featured the Philippine School Bahrain Chorale and Banyuhay Dance Troupe.

The PSB Chorale gave an excellent a capella rendition of “Rosas Pandan” and “Paro-parong Bukid,” while the Banyuhay Dance Troupe performed the traditional “Flores de Mayo” and a contemporary dance to the tune of “Kanta Pilipinas.”

On the second day, Embassy staff Pio Tejada and Anna Lorena Rivadenera, performed the OPM hit “Anak,” popularized by Freddie Aguilar, and the Filipino folk song “Ang Pipit”.

On the last day, a cooking demonstration was conducted by Joseph Lim and Kristel Ann Mendoza to show how Mama Sita’s Mixes and Sauces can be used in preparing Filipino dishes. Among the products used were Mama Sita’s Oyster Sauce for the “pancit” or “Manila Style Stir Fry Noodles” and Mama Sita’s Barbecue Marinade for the chicken barbecue.

The Embassy thanks its partners for this event, particularly Mama Sita’s, Philippine School Bahrain, Jollibee, Philippine Airlines and its GSA World Travel Service, AMA International University Bahrain, LBC and Filex Cargo. END
