JAKARTA 16 October 2018 – The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement to prepare for and organize an ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) event entitled “Symposium on the Establishment of an ASEAN Women for Peace Registry,” which will be held in December 2018.
The Registry calls for ASEAN member states to take stock of their human capital and calls for them to nominate women experts who may be called to assist in peace and reconciliation initiatives of ASEAN Member States.
Once the inaugural registry is finalized, the identified women experts will take part in a symposium, to be held in December 2018 in Cebu City to share their knowledge and experiences in gender mainstreaming, capacity-building, women’s achievements, and the promotion of respect for human dignity and human rights under the context of peace, reconciliation and conflict resolution.
The symposium also aims to address how to operationalize the ‘Joint Statement on Promoting Women, Peace and Security in ASEAN’, which was adopted last year during the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila.
Permanent Representative to ASEAN and Representative to the ASEAN-IPR Governing Council Ambassador to Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Jesus G. Dureza, and ADMU Vice President for Loyola Schools Dr. Maria Luz C. Vilches signed the agreement for their respective institutions. END
