PH Embassy in Dili Donates Books to Timorese School
DILI 19 October 2018 – Aimed at promoting cultural links with the Timorese schools and pupils and create awareness on the close cultural ties between the Philippines and Timor-Leste, the Philippine Embassy in Dili donated books to the Eskola Dominicana in the barrio of Hera in Dili on 14 September 2018.
This marked the first book donation drive conducted by the Embassy to a Timorese school.
The Missionary Dominican Sisters of the Rosary, led by Filipino nun Sister Elsie Balagapo, administer the community school, which caters mainly to the children of the members of the Timorese Navy personnel base in the nearby Naval Base.
Ambassador to Timor-Leste Abdulmaid K. Muin turned over to the school a total of 37 books, including book titles in English and Filipino languages.
The Dominican Sisters conveyed their appreciation to Ambassador Muin for donating the books and visiting their school. Sister Elsie said that they will utilize the books in their school curriculum and promote socio-cultural links between the Philippines and Timor-Leste to their pupils. END
