NEW YORK 18 October 2018 – Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. addressed the Third Committee during its General Discussion on Social Development, where he articulated Philippine policies on social development including on youth, older persons and persons with disabilities on 02 October 2018.

“The Philippines remains steadfast to promote and protect the well-being of the vulnerable sectors of society, not just our own, but all of ours. As my Foreign Minister said to the General Assembly, this world is fast becoming bigger but constantly getting smaller,” Ambassador Locsin said in his statement.

Ambassador Locsin outlined the initiatives being undertaken by the government through the AmBisyon 2040. Among these initiatives are the conditional cash transfer program, the Philippine Youth Development Plan 2017-2022, and the social pension program for older persons.

The Philippines tabled the biennial resolution “Inclusive development for Persons with Disabilities,” which encourages the mobilization of resources on a sustainable basis to mainstream disability, including the rights of persons with disabilities, in development at all levels.

The updating of the text of the resolution is currently facilitated by Philippines in the Third Committee. END
