PH Attends Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments

ANKARA 29 October 2018 — The Philippine delegation highlighted its role in the Eurasian region at the Third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments (MSEAP 3) held in Antalya, Turkey on 08 to 11 October 2018.
A delegation from the House of Representatives participated in the meeting, led by Deputy Speaker Fredenil Castro.
During the meeting, he highlighted the Philippine government’s contributions to promote economic cooperation, environmental protection and in achieving sustainable development in the Eurasian region.
The main outcome document of the third meeting is the Antalya Statement, which recognized the role played by the parliaments of Eurasian countries in creating a frank discussion of issues, and results to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
It affirmed the commitment to joint efforts in legislative support to expand partnerships in Eurasia for a shared future, inclusive and sustainable growth, and prosperity through cooperation in many areas of common interest, such as logistics services, customs harmonization, multimodal connectivity, infrastructure development, business facilitation and technology transfer based on the respect for the laws of each country.
The statement also highlighted environmental challenges such as climate change, drought, deforestation, desertification and land degradation, natural disasters, loss of biodiversity and water scarcity and the need to promote close cooperation and co-ordination among Eurasian countries to improve adaptability and self-reliance against negative effects caused by these challenges.
The meeting further built on the achievements of the first and second MSEAP conferences held in Russia and Republic of Korea in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
The meeting was attended by parliament speakers and their representatives from 39 countries which represent close to 3 billion of the world’s population. The fourth meeting will be held in Kazakhstan next year. END
