PH Embassy in Athens Holds Consular Outreach, Overseas Voting Registration in Crete

ATHENS 29 October 2018 — Upon request of the Filipino Club Heraklion Crete, the Philippine Embassy in Athens conducted a consular outreach and overseas voting (OV) registration at the Capsis Astoria Heraklion Hotel in Crete, Greece on 23 September 2018.

The Embassy processed 45 applications for renewal of passports, two applications for notarial of documents, 15 applications for OV registration and certification, ten applications for reactivation of overseas voting records, 11 applications for change of address, one application for correction of entries, one application for recapture of biometrics, one application for transfer of voting records, and 32 applications for renewal of membership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

After the processing of applications, Ambassador to Athens Frank R. Cimafranca presided over a Filipino Community meeting attended by 73 Filipinos in Crete. Ambassador Cimafranca was assisted in the forum by Consul Judy Barbara G. Robianes, Labor Attaché Melchor B. Dizon, Welfare Officer Rosalia Susana S. Bahia-Catapang, and Honorary Consul in Crete Alexandros Fasoulakis.

During the forum, Filipino Community members conveyed their concerns on the upcoming 2019 national elections in the Philippines and possible modes of voting in Greece, consequences of using an assumed identity in a passport and the statute of limitations covering the offense, civil registry issues such as corrections of name, and labor issues such as direct hiring and the i-DOLE card.

The consular outreach and the Filipino Community meeting were successfully conducted with the support and cooperation of the Philippine Consulate in Crete, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and the Filipino Club Heraklion Crete led by its President Johnny P. Quinto. END
