Hawaii College Chancellor Awarded KOR Award

HONOLULU 31 October 2018 — A chancellor from one of Hawaii’s colleges was bestowed the Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Peace and Social Justice for his contributions on education. 

The Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Peace and Social Justice was conferred on Dr. Mark Silliman for his dedicated service and unwavering support for the education of the youth.

As Chancellor of Leeward Community College at Pearl City in Hawaii, Dr. Silliman was responsible for the college’s instructional and student services, institutional support, academic support, continuing education and training, and workforce development programs.

Consul General to Honolulu Joselito A. Jimeno was invited by the Knights of Rizal (KOR) Hawaii Chapter to deliver the inspirational message at the 8th Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Peace and Social Justice Gala on 16 September 2018 at the Waikiki Ballroom, Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu.

In his inspirational message, Consul General Jimeno reiterated the relevance of Rizal’s life that was directed not at self-interest or glorification but at improvement of self and the common good.

Aside from delivering his remarks, the Consul General also officiated the oath of reaffirmation of the officers of the KOR-Hawaii Chapter for the year 2018 led by its President, Sir Danny Villaruz, together with the Council of Elders.

Around 200 guests attended the event, including officers and members of the KOR-Hawaii Chapter.

The Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Peace and Social Justice is given annually by the KOR-Hawaii Chapter in memory of Rizal and his achievements. It is awarded to a person who exemplifies the ideals and teachings of the Philippines’ national hero.  END
