02 January 2014 - The Filipino Catholic Community of Milan (FCCM) led preparations for the Simbang Gabi held on December 16, 2013 at 7:30pm in the Duomo Cathedral. The Simbang Gabi has been a tradition among the Filipinos in Milan as part of their Christmas celebrations. One day in the 9-days Simbang Gabi novena is held at the landmark Duomo, a privilege and recognition given by the Archdiocese of Milan to Filipinos. The mass, officiated by Monsignor Carlo Faccendini, the Vicar Episcopal of Milan, was concelebrated with Filipino and Italian priests serving Filipino community parishes. It was celebrated in Italian, English and Filipino languages with the hymns sung by a Filipino choir.
The Holy Mass started with a procession of various Filipino associations with their banners. It was led by Consul General Lourdes Tabamo and officers of the Philippine Consulate General in Milan.
In his Christmas message, Monsignor Faccendini reminded the people that “Jesus is the light, He is the light in our hearts and lives”. Consul General Lourdes S. Tabamo addressed the attendees before the Holy Mass ended and enjoined everyone to finish the nine day Simbang Gabi as a preparation for the coming of Christ, Who is the real meaning of Christmas.
The succeeding masses for the Simbang Gabi from December 17 to 24, 2013 was celebrated at the respective parish churches of the various Filipino communities. END
