ASEAN Committee Calls On Brazilian Foreign Minister

BRASÍLIA 05 November 2018 – The ASEAN Committee in Brasília (ACB), chaired by Ambassador to Brazil Marichu B. Mauro, made a farewell call on Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes at the Itamaraty Palace.

Ambassador Mauro thanked Minister Nunes for the special importance which he placed on Southeast Asia during his stint as Foreign Minister, citing his visits to five ASEAN countries in 2017 and 2018.

She also credited Brazilian President Michel Temer’s wisdom in recognizing Southeast Asia’s prominence as a regional economic bloc, and how important it is for Brazil to forge closer ties with the region.

For his part, Minister Nunes thanked the ASEAN Ambassadors for his excellent reception when he visited Southeast Asia and assured them that ASEAN “is firmly in the radar of Brazil” and the region shall retain its special and prominent place in Brazil’s foreign policy.

The ASEAN Heads of Mission from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, accompanied by their respective working group members, were present during the call. END
