PH Embassy in Dili Meets with PH Schools
DILI 30 October 2018 – To discuss the formation of an organization for the Philippine Schools in Dili, The Philippine Embassy in Dili met with the Filipino owners and administrators of the six Philippine Schools in Dili on 20 October 2018 at Orchid Room of Timor Plaza.
Undersecretary Mateo was in Dili to embark on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of basic education and technical-vocational training with its Timorese counterpart, the Ministry of Education.
Future bilateral cooperation activities with Timor-Leste could include the possibility of conducting a training for trainers in Dili. Among the proposals being looked into by DepEd is the possibility of inviting the human resources of the Philippine schools in Dili to participate in the training for trainers.
The six schools were Maharlika International School (MIS), St. Mary’s Development Child Center (SMDCC), St. Jude Thaddeus International School (SJTIS), Lighthouse International School (LIS), Eskola de Gracia Y Verdad International School (EDGYVIS), and Heritage International School (HIS).
These schools in Dili agreed to organize under a single front in response to the recommendation of Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Jesus Mateo during his visit to Timor-Leste in early October 2018.
Mr. Charles Michael Papay of MIS and Ms. Mary Jane Bayan were appointed as interim president and interim secretary of the new grouping, with Ambassador Abdulamid K. Muin as adviser.
The Philippine Embassy in Dili also took the opportunity to brief the Philippine Schools in Dili on the process of accreditation for being fully recognized as Philippine Schools Overseas (PSO) by DepEd, as well on the available on-line options for Continuing Professional Education (CPD) for Filipino teachers in Timor-Leste.
