NEW YORK 14 November 2018 – Philippine Airlines (PAL), the national flag carrier, started flying nonstop between New York’s JFK Airport and Manila five times weekly on their new Airbus 350-900 on 29 October 2018.
PAL hosted a launch event at the Philippine Center in New York to announce the news to travel trade partners, the media, and select community members on 26 October 2018.
Consul General to New York Claro S. Cristobal congratulated PAL for this new service, saying that he is pleased that he can now fly direct from New York to Manila, because lay-overs and connecting flights, especially coming from New York where inclement winter weather frequently delays or grounds flights, might ruin passengers’ schedules.
Department of Tourism-New York Administrative Officer Luz Navarro also offered their office’s congratulations to PAL, acknowledging the national carrier as their main partner in promoting tourism to the Philippines.
She took the opportunity to promote the islands Siargao, Palawan and Boracay, which recently were recognized as Conde Nast’s Best Islands of the World.
PAL Area Manager for New York Joesyl Vasquez announced that more than 200 passengers have already booked for the maiden direct flight, mostly Filipinos and Filipino-Americans.
At 16 hours flying time, the direct flight between Manila and JFK is the ninth longest commercial fight route in the world, and the longest flight to operate from JFK. PAL is offering lower airfares for the introductory promo period. END
