ASEAN Committee in Rome Delivers Talk on ASEAN at Scuola di Politche

ROME 23 November 2018 — The ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR), in cooperation with the Scuola di Politiche (SdP) and the Italy-ASEAN Association, held the first ASEAN Ambassadors’ Talk with the students and alumni of SdP on 15 November 2018.

The SdP, an organization founded by former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, regularly organizes courses, lectures, and meetings for its students with key representatives and stakeholders of the different sectors of society.

During the talk, the ACR Ambassadors shared information on their respective countries’ bilateral relations with Italy, and gave their insights on the ASEAN.

In his opening remarks, current ACR Chair and Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino said that the ASEAN has come a long way as an organization and community.

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco discussed the Political-Security Community, Economic Community, and Socio-Cultural Community pillars of the ASEAN. The Ambassador also shared the relevance of the Philippine participation and contribution in the regional bloc, including the country’s chairmanship in 2017 during the 50th founding anniversary of the organization.

Other ACR members including Indonesian Ambassador Esti Andayani of Indonesia, Myanmar Ambassador Myint Naung, Thai Ambassador Tana Weskosith, and Vietnamese Embassy representative Duc Thanh Nguyen, also discussed other aspects of ASEAN to give the audience a better understanding and appreciation of the organization. The roundtable discussion was moderated by Scientific Director of the Scuola di Politiche Alessandro Aresu. END
