LOS ANGELES 12 November 2018 – As a fitting conclusion of its Filipino-American History Month celebration, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, in cooperation with Los Angeles-Makati Sister City, Inc., hosted a special reception honoring Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti for his valuable contribution leading to the creation of Historic Filipinotown.

Historic Filipinotown is the first official geographic designation honoring the presence and significant contributions of Filipinos in America, particularly in the city of Los Angeles, beginning in the early decade of the 20th century.

“L.A. is a great Filipino city,” Mayor Garcetti remarked during his speech before the Filipino-American Community.

“We are Filipinos because we love this culture,” he further said.

Mayor Garcetti was first elected as Mayor in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017, where he won by a landslide margin of 81.4 percent. His visit to the Consulate General, highlighted by a close interaction with the Filipino-American community, was his first since his election in 2013.

The event was attended by more than a hundred members of the Filipino-American community in Los Angeles. END
