ANKARA 16 November 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara participated in the annual ASEAN Family Day at the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey’s Official Residence on 10 November 2018.

More than 160 participants from the seven resident diplomatic missions of the ASEAN Ankara Committee (AAC), namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam joined the event. The Philippine contingent totaled 41 members, composed of Embassy personnel and their family members.

In commemoration of the 80th death anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the modern Republic of Turkey, the ASEAN flag was lowered to half-mast and a minute of silence was observed before the official opening of festivities.

The current AAC Chair, Thai Ambassador to Turkey Phantipha Iamsudha thanked everyone who joined the event and welcomed the new Vietnamese Ambassador to Turkey Tran Quang Tuyen.

Participants were mixed and grouped into four teams representing the ASEAN colors (red, blue, white, and yellow) to foster greater solidarity and unity among the AAC members and their families.

Games such as bread eating, musical chairs, balloon relay, and tug-of-war were held. A karaoke-singing contest where Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Teodulfo R. Alferez placed third, also took place.

The AAC missions prepared their respective country’s dishes for lunch, with chicken abodo, sinigang na isda, and maruya as the Embassy’s contribution.

The Embassy also mounted a Philippine booth decorated with native accessories, woven products, Philippine maskaras, and “More Fun in the Philippines” tourism posters. END
