MADRID 28 November 2018 – Revista Diplomacia, a magazine published by the Academy of Diplomacy of the Kingdom of Spain, paid tribute to the Philippines in its November 2018 special issue.
The November 2018 issue focused exclusively on the Philippines and featured Ambassador to Spain Philippe J. Lhuillier on the cover of the 68-page glossy magazine.
The issue included numerous articles detailing the historic and current bilateral relations between the Philippines and Spain, the country’s myriad investment opportunities, the shared history and culture between both nations, and a reflection on the 500th anniversary of Spain’s arrival in the Philippines.
It also included a tribute to former Senate President Edgardo Angara, one of the staunchest supporters of Philippine-Spanish relations, and various informative articles from Grupo Emperador and Alliance Global Group.
Ambassador Lhuillier was on hand during the launch of the special Philippine issue, which was sponsored by Philippine company Grupo Emperador in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Madrid and Revista Diplomacia. It was attended by Spanish executives, members of the diplomatic corps, Embassy officials, and other guests.
“I hope this special magazine issue will spark further interest and discussion on our country,” said Ambassador Lhuillier to the group of over 50 attendees.
Ambassador Lhuillier further added, “It is my hope that through this magazine and the Embassy’s efforts, more and more Spanish companies will invest in the Philippines. While we have always said that the Philippines is Spain’s natural business partner in Asia due to our strong historical links, there are many other reasons that go beyond these.”
He also expressed his appreciation to Grupo Emperador and Dr. Andrew Tan, stating that the special Philippine issue would not have been possible without their generous assistance.
Revista Diplomacia Executive President Santiago Velo de Antelo said that it was high time for an issue dedicated to the Philippines due to its strong historical links and increasing modern-day trade with Spain.
In explaining the choice of cover, Mr. Velo de Antelo stated that Ambassador Lhuillier’s diplomatic work in Spain was deserving of such an honor.
The launch was followed by a cocktail reception featuring Fundador brandies. END
