PH Embassy Meets Polish National Labor Inspectorate

WARSAW 06 December 2018 — Poland’s National Labor Inspectorate, headed by Chief Labor Inspector Mr. Wieslaw Lyszcek, has been actively supporting and cooperating with the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw to ensure the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Poland.
Philippine Ambassador Patricia Ann. V. Paez was informed by the Polish officials that 11 inspections were conducted by the Labor Inspectorate in 2017 while four had, so far, been undertaken during the first half of 2018. The inspections were done in worksites which employ OFWs and covered a total of 39 OFWs.
The Polish officials also apprised the Philippine embassy officials about the status of several labor-related complaints which were brought to the attention of the embassy by the OFWs and which the Embassy, referred to the National Labor Inspectorate.
There has been a gradual but noticeable increase in the number of OFWs in Poland. According to the National Labor Inspectorate officials, a total of 730 work permits were issued to Filipinos in 2017 while 500 work permits were issued to OFWs for the first half of 2018.
Consular and Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Officer Consul Maria Alnee Gamble and Consular and ATN Assistant Mr. Ramon Ebalo also participated in the meeting. From the National Labor Inspectorate, the participants were: Deputy Chief Labor Inspector Mr. Bogdan Drzastwa, Deputy Director in the Chief Labor Inspector’s Office Ms. Katarzyna Klepczynska; Deputy Director at the Legality of Employment Department Mr. Michal Tyczynski; Specialist from the Legal Department Mr. Pawel Zukowski; Head of the International Relations Unit Ms. Marta Chodorowska; and Interpreter from the International Relations Unit Ms. Teresa Jastrebska.
