Incoming ETO Head Calls On PH Consul General

HONG KONG 14 November 2018 – The incoming head of the Hong Kong Government’s office handling trade and cultural relations with the Philippines called on Consul General Antonio A. Morales at the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong’s chancery in Admiralty on 07 November 2018.
Incoming Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Jakarta Director General Kin-wai Law discussed the future prospects of Hong Kong’s growing trade, investment, tourism, and cultural ties with the Philippines during the visit. HKETO Jakarta is responsible for relations with Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei.
Mr. Law will be assuming his position in early December, replacing incumbent Do Pang Wai.
“I expect to make frequent visits to Manila in order to oversee the enhancement of relations, and ensure continued growth in all areas of bilateral relations including trade, investment, tourism and cultural fields,” Mr. Law told Consul General Morales, as well as Deputy Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan and Consul Roderico C. Atienza, who were also in the meeting.
Mr. Law, who has served as Director for the HKETO in Washington D.C. since April 2015, is a career civil servant of the Hong Kong government since 2001. Apart from Washington D.C., Mr. Law has previously represented Hong Kong overseas as Deputy Director inHKETO Singapore from 2008 to 2011.
Under China’s “One Country, Two Systems” policy, Hong Kong can establish representative offices overseas to handle economic, trade, and people-to-people relations with its overseas partners, particularly multilateral and bilateral issues that affect their respective economies.
The HK Commerce and Economic Development Bureau is in the process of opening another HKETO in Bangkok soon to broaden representation in the region, and moreover, to be better able to take advantage of the ASEAN-Hong Kong, and China Free Trade Agreement which will enter into force on 01 January 2019.
